Mahindra XUV500 A Hot Indian SUV For Indian Roads

Indian SUV-XUV500

Mahindra & Mahindra launched it’s much awaited and most impressive SUV-XUV500 in September 2011. The all new sporty looking and most stylish SUV that Mahindra has ever made comes under the D segment of SUVs and probably in a new category between Mahindra Scorpio and the higher end SUVs. The XUV500 is a 7-seater SUV. It comes with a single engine option and comes in three variants which include an AWD variant called W8. The engine of the XUV500 is the same 2.2-litre m-Hawk diesel of the Scorpio, but which is well-refined and which makes more power and torque than in the former.

Powerful Diesel Engine m-Hawk

The powerful m-Hawk diesel engine of the XUV500 has been well refined to get 140 bhp and 330 Nm which is pretty impressive as compared to the Scorpio and also makes the ride more sporty and exciting. There are three variants namely-the base variant which is the W6 4x2, the full option W8 4x2, and the W8 4x4 variant. It also comes with a special Twin-turbo model which generates 170 bhp power, priced slightly above and also there is an automatic option which one can opt for smoother rides. The base variant is priced at Rs 11.5 lakhs which is very competitive with the numerous features offered by this amazing SUV.

Verdict

Overall, Mahindra & Mahindra have perfected in designing the XUV500 at top notch when it comes to features, price, styling, comfort, performance and space. It does not have a ride quality to be comparable with the likes of Aria but still it is rarely uncomfortable and acts sporty too with the powerful diesel engine. The engine also still needs some more refinement and the qualities at some places have to be reworked upon for still more competitiveness with the likes of Fortuner, Captiva and Endeavour. But, it offers excellent value for money and if one is looking for a SUV with some cool features in the Indian market for around 13 lakhs, the XUV500 is the best bid.
