Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

Life Utility Vehicle

Maruti Suzuki made a huge move by stepping into the MUV segment by launching the much awaited Maruti Ertiga, a 7-seater MUV on 12th April 2012. It was previously on display as the RIII concept at the Auto Expo in New Delhi on 6th January 2012. It is available in seven variants and two engine options- petrol and diesel. It is also available in seven shades. The tagline of the Ertiga is “A Feeling called LUV-Life Utility Vehicle”. Both the petrol and diesel engines are the ones which power the New Swift which has revolutionized the hatchback segment with the most number of bookings in a single month.

Under The Hood

The petrol version is powered by a 1373 cc K-series engine which has a maximum power of 93.8 bhp and a maximum torque of 130 Nm whereas the diesel version is powered by a 1248 cc 16V Multijet which has a maximum power of 88.8 bhp and a maximum torque of 200 Nm. The base model of Ertiga Petrol is priced competitively at Rs 5.89 lakhs and the base model of diesel is priced at Rs 7.30 lakhs which is very competitive for a 7-seater MUV because the competitors in this segment, Chevrolet Tavera, Mahindra Xylo, etc., are priced well above Ertiga.

Feature Rich Ertiga

The ARAI certified mileage of Ertiga is 16 kmpl for petrol and 20 kmpl for diesel which makes the Ertiga the most fuel efficient vehicle in its segment. The top model of Ertiga is fully equipped with safety features like ABS, EBD with Brake Assist, Security Alarm System, Immobilizer, Information Display, Steering wheel mounted audio controls, AC with heater, 2nd row AC, ORVM, power windows, central locking, front and rear fog lamps, low fuel warning, remote fuel lid opener and remote boot opener, Seatbelt reminder and door ajar reminder among others.

Ertiga's exterior appearance is more of a blend between Ritz and Swift. The interiors are an extended version of the Swift. The interrior of Ertiga is a proper 7-seater MUV with foldable 2nd and 3rd row seats for more luggage or boot space. The third row is meant only for kids as there is no proper headroom for an adult. The dash and steering are both similar to the new Swift whose interiors are appreciable of high quality of finishing and quality plastics. Overall, the Maruti Ertiga is the cheapest and most refined and fuel efficient MUV in India at this point, adding the vast Maruti network in India, it is a MUV to watch out for the coming years.
